Some “light” Political Satire

“I still have nightmares about that day.” The coffee mug that read Mondays SUCK vibrated in my rattling hands. “It’s the reason I left politics.”

Air caught in my chest. I forced it out and sunk into the comfy couch next to the hypnotist. A squat man with thinning hair and wire-rimmed glasses, the non-traditional medical practitioner developed a reputation for curing political trauma.

“Claudia, this technique will help. Relax and focus on me. You’re going to relive the experience one final time, as though you are watching it happen. Then, never again.”

Two blue balls hung from a thick string in the hypnotists’ hand. He held one ball and let it bounce against the other until they clicked and clacked in a rhythmic pattern. I followed the swinging balls in bobblehead fashion until my mind unclenched and went blank. I closed my eyes and drifted back to the day our government died.

“Senator, here!” A young reporter shouted above the babbles of other journalists trying to catch the attention of Senator James R. Barnes as he shuffled to the Capitol Building.
